HOT Portal

portal.hotosm.org brings HOT's tools together and helps coordinate projects across them.

What it does

  • One login for all tools: HOT Accounts, plus a shared tool menu.
  • See your work across tools: sections for Imagery, Mapping, Field and Data show each tool and your own projects in it, with a map of data from all tools.
  • Plans: group projects across tools into an end-to-end workflow (see below).
  • Organisations and teams: share plans with your team, or publicly.

Plans: coordinating an end-to-end project

A plan links related projects so everyone can follow the data from imagery to the final map. For example:

  1. Imagery: the Drone TM project, and the resulting imagery in OAM.
  2. Digitisation: the fAIr model and the Tasking Manager project.
  3. Field: the Field-TM project or ChatMap map.
  4. Data and sharing: Export Tool downloads and the uMap of the results.

Add projects by pasting their URL. Some third-party projects (MapSwipe, Sketch Map Tool) can be added too. You can:

  • Group projects into collections, reorder them and feature the important ones.
  • Track the status of each project.
  • Add placeholder tasks for future steps and link the projects later.
  • Keep the plan private, share it with your organisation, or make it public.

Disaster response dashboards (planned)

Portal's planned disaster response dashboard will use a plan per response to link imagery, Tasking Manager projects, fAIr predictions, MapSwipe validation and uMaps. Response teams can update these plans as needs change.

Roadmap

As of October 2026 (see roadmap.hotosm.org for current dates):

  • Done: HOT Accounts login, tool menu, per-stage sections, plans, organisations, third-party projects in plans.
  • In progress: an open mapping marketplace (find services or offer them as a vendor), public profiles, integration with the HOT Learning Center.
  • Planned: disaster response dashboards, maps for plans, visualisation options, story maps and metrics.

When not to use it

Portal links projects and data; it doesn't store or analyse data itself. For a full geoportal or data catalogue, use GeoNode, or HDX for humanitarian datasets.
